** Special Incentive:  Earn an additional $20.00/Day if you work more than 5 full days in a 2-Week Pay Period

 

Smithhville School District is currently accepting applications for substitutes for teachers and instructional assistants for the 2024-2025 School Year.  

   

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requires that substitutes have completed 36 college credit hours and must provide original transcripts from your college to DESE in Jefferson City. Instructions for transcripts and applying for a required substitute certification through DESE can be found on their website at dese.mo.gov.

All Substitutes must also clear a Missouri Highway Patrol background clearance check and be registered with the Family Care Safety Registry.  Instructions for the fingerprinting appointments and the Family Care Safety Registry can be found on our website under the Careers section in the Substitute Packet.

 

As a Substitute in our district, you will have access to Wagestream, which provides flexible access to your pay, as you earn it.

  

Substitute On-Boardings will be scheduled on the following dates at the Central Office:

 

  • Thursday, December 5th - 9:00am - 10:30am
  • Wednesday, January 15th - 1:00pm - 2:30pm
  • Tuesday, February 4th - 9:30am - 11:00am
  • Wednesday, February 19th - 1:00pm - 2:30pm

 

Summary

Substitutes are responsible for supervising students and maintaining an environment conducive to learning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

An individual who holds this position is required to:

  1. Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.
  2. Implement effective lessons in the absences of the regular instructor.
  3. Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  4. Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times.
  5. Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm, and tornado warning procedures.
  6. Review notes for the day, take attendance, lunch count and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.
  7. Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  8. Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances. Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.
  9. Remain on duty for the entire assignment, including planning time of the teacher.
  10. Leave detailed notes for the teacher on any issues experienced during the day.
  11. Other duties as assigned by the Principal.
  12. Adhere to all the policies, procedures and regulations of the building and district.

Qualifications

Education

36 college credits from an accredited college/university

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Missouri Substitute Teaching Certificate

Language

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

  1. Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, Board policy, administrative procedures and forms and governmental regulations and guidance.
  2. Complete forms, write reports and engage in written correspondence with parents.
  3. Present information effectively and respond to questions.
  4. Write clear and complete lesson plans.

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

  1. Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  2. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  2. Use district software for recording grades and finding student information.
  3. Utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district.

Conditions and Environment

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active.  Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.

 

Terms of Employment
